In this course, Joyce Romanoff, President of Maya Romanoff, provides an overview of 20th & 21st century wall coverings, and culminates with a live wallpaper making demonstration by a Maya Romanoff artisan. From block printing to hand painting to inlaid materials to natural fibers to fine art and more, we will explore the world of handcrafted wall coverings and reveal how they have evolved.
With her aesthetic sophistication, technical knowledge and prodigious energy, Joyce Romanoff has worked tirelessly to make the “art of everyday” scalable enough for global distribution. After her move to the role of CEO of Maya Romanoff in 2016, the company expanded substantially, all while staying true to the guiding principles of company founder Maya Romanoff. Joyce is also the primary design force behind many of Maya Romanoff’s most innovative designs, including Mother of Pearl, hand-inlaid tiles of genuine seashell; Ajiro, micro-thin paulownia wood veneer; and Beadazzled Flexible Glass Bead Wallcovering.
