Canstruction
Canstruction combines the competitive spirit of a design/build competition
with a unique way to help feed hungry people. Competing teams, led by architects
and engineers, showcase their talents by designing giant sculptures made entirely
out of canned foods. At the close of the exhibition all of the food used in the
structures will be donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank for distribution to
pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, elderly and day care centers.
It is a
community service project that benefits thousands of hungry people in the greater
Boston area as it spotlights the design and construction industries giving back
to the community. The competition is sponsored annually in Boston by the Society
for Design Adminstration, the Boston Society of Architects and Mayor Thomas M. Menino.
